James R Barker in Duluth

James R Barker turning in the Duluth harbor basin, then backing under the bridge. Almost looks like she's not going to make it, doesn't it? June 18, 2009 They're in reverse order, again....looks like she's coming under the bridge rather than backing under it.

James R Barker loading ore

Thousand footers have not loaded ore at Marquette for several years, so it was a real treat to see the James R Barker loading ore.  She normally brings coal.  Because she is so large, she has to load on both sides of the dock.

James R Barker

The James R Barker made two trips to Marquette with coal.  She came in with an icy bow, then returned a few days later.  She was the last ship in on a very snowy afternoon.  Added a pic of the engines that deliver the ore cars to the dock.  Ship pics will be lean for the next couple months, with both Marquette and Escanaba not shipping.  May have to find get some other projects done.  :o)

Waves and the James R Barker

Well, had more waves yesterday, with the sun shining this time.  Will try to post a pic.  The Charles M. Beeghly arrived last night for ore, but left this morning before we arrived.  The James R. Barker arrived with coal, and did get a pic of that.  The Kaye E Barker brought coal to the lower harbor Shiras dock after we left Marquette, so missed her, too.  Ah, well, there's a summer full of ships waiting.....I hope.  :o)
